After accusations that hunters were defrauded at the Candelaria Ranch hunting destination, Gonzales County District Court issued a temporary restraining order and froze assets of the owners, Pasadena couple Paul and Angela Candelaria.

The action came at the request of Attorney General Greg Abbott after hunters drawn to the ranch to hunt native and exotic game complained that the property covers about 250 acres, not the 2,000 acres advertised by the defendants, according to this article from the Beaumont Enterprise.

Candelaria Ranch advertisements promised "guided" hunts, but most hunters were left on their own to find animals, according to an Attorney General's office news release.

Abbott's office is seeking civil penalties of up to $20,000 for each violation of the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act, as well as restitution to financially harmed hunters, the Enterprise reported.

A temporary injunction hearing is set for April 16.
